A

To check all looks ok
I.e.
No tears in Jumper Cables
No Transformer oil drips
Butterfly flaps are not damaged
Isolating Cocks in normal position (if isolated, cover would not close and you could see white in the windows)
Test the sand

What must you remember to do in order to test there is sand in the box?

A

Put your key in and select Neutral (the sand test button won’t work otherwise)

During prep, after you have put in your key, Neutral, cancelled AWS….. what does the STAND UP prep consist of doing?

A

Checking the following:

Wipers and washer
Lights including hazards
GSM-R (T button)

Look around the cab, check all in order

Regen Braking = On

Brake test (Emergency, 3, 2, 1)
Try to take power against the DRA
DSD/Vigilance (take foot off)

During prep, what do you need to do with the Direction Selector before doing the brake test?

A

Put it in to Forward and then to Neutral (otherwise the brake chamber gauge won’t change)

Disposing of a 323……

A

((Phone signaller and check what to do about the Pantograph))
Check the Repair Book
Look around the cab for fault lights, make sure everything is ok I.e. MCBs
Shut down desk
Shut blinds
Lock doors
…….
Do the same in the intermediate cabs
……..
Do the same in the end cab
PLUS
Put red handlamp in the window
Pan Down
AUX OFF

323 prep….. in the intermediate cabs, do you take power against the DRA?

A

No. You would do a brake test, but don’t try and take any power

UPC at New Street…..

A

Only do the prep checks in the cab you are driving from (if 350, remember to configure the TMS)

Raising the Pantograph from stabled….. how do you know when you can raise it?

A

After you have AUX on, allow the main reservoir pressure to build to around 6 bar before trying to raise the Pantograph

If the Guard tells you that you are going express (…. you have not been given the paper slip), what should you do?

A

Phone the Train Service Manager to confirm this is correct (GSM-R phone book picture, TSM…. Also phone number is available in 350 manual)

How can you contact a signal box if the GSM-R does not connect you automatically?

A

Pick up the GSM-R phone, select 4, then 2, and go through the drop down options (type in WMS and scroll down the list)
