shortlist
- to put somebody/something on a shortlist for a job, prize, etc.
Ex: Candidates who are shortlisted for interview will be contacted by the end of the week.

Ex: Hundreds are initiated into the sect each year.

- to make something, especially somebody’s confidence or authority, gradually weaker or less effective
Ex: Our confidence in the team has been seriously undermined by their recent defeats.
