Vision Flashcards
Sclara
outside fatty/connective tissue layer of the eye, the white part
Choroid
inner layer that supplies the eye with blood
Cornea
the outer, clear layer on top of the iris, the window to the eye, avascular
ciliary body
soft tissue that surround the lens and hold the lens in place
Iris
colored part of the eye, donut shaped sphincter which controls the amount of light that gets into the eye
Lens
disk that is behind the iris, focuses the light coming in and projects it onto the retina
Retina layers
- outer pigmented layer (absorbs light) &
- inner neural layer (contains photoreceptors [rods and cones], bipolar neurons, and ganglion neurons)
Rods
more sensitive, separated out into three different types; red, green, and blue.
-less numerous, need bright conditions to fire
Cones
more numerous, very sensitive to light, only see in black and white, they rule your peripheral vision
