Nervous tissue Flashcards
Soma
Cell body
Dendrite
The receiving end of a neuron, looks like shorter arms but cant really tell
Axon
longer, sending arm of a neuron. Looks and donut upon cross section
Gray matter
contains neuron cell bodies, “H” shape
white matter
contains axons
central canal
small fluid filled opening
ventral horn
A division of the right and left gray matter of the spinal cord. Most forward/frontward facing part
dorsal horn
A division of the right and left gray matter of the spinal cord. Furthest back facing part
lateral horn
A division of the right and left gray matter of the spinal cord. Section farthest from middle
Gray commissure
gray matter that connects right and left sides and surrounds central canal
Ventral column
A division of the white matter of the right and left sides. Ventral side is the most forward part
dorsal column
A division of the white matter of the right and left sides. Dorsal side is the furthest backward
lateral column
A division of the white matter of the right and left sides. Lateral is the furthest from the middle and to the side
Dorsal root ganglion
cluster of soma cell bodies in the PNS
Node of ranvier
Sections on an axon or dendrite that is not myelinated
Peripheral nerve longitudinal axon
You can see the node of ranvier in the longitudinal view
Ventral root
Forward part of the peripheral nervous system
dorsal root
Back part of the peripheral nervous system
Spinal cord soma
Looks like a traditional neuron cell body, defined processes
Spinal cord neurological cell nuclei
the dark spots behind the neuron, those are the cells that supply nutrients
Spinal cord axon and dendrites
looks like a tradition neuron
Peripheral nerve longitudinal
You should be able to see the node of ranvier
