Connective tissue Flashcards
Loose fibrous connective tissue
lacy in appearance and found in fluid filled areas. Makes up a lot of the loose packing area in organs. Connects skin to underlying structures, composed of collagen fibers, elastic fibers, fibroblasts, and mast cells
Adipose tissue
Has very little extracellular matrix unlike other connective tissues. Characterized by large, round, open spaces surrounded by a thin membrane. Contains large droplets of lipids that push other organelles up against the sides, Looks like a hair net. Mostly found in subcutaneous areas
Dense regularly arranged fibrous connective tissue
Composed mainly of collagen fibers bundled tightly together in parallel lines. Along with these are the sliver-like nuclei of the fibroblasts
Dense regularly arranged fibrous connective tissue
Composed mainly of collagen fibers bundled tightly together in parallel lines. Along with these are the sliver-like nuclei of the fibroblasts. This type of tissue has vey poor blood supply so when it is damaged it takes a long time to repair itself. It forms tendons and ligaments
Dense irregularly arranged fibrous connective tissue
Composed of large collagen fibers like with the regularly arranged connective tissue but they are not parallel.
Dense irregularly arranged fibrous connective tissue
Composed of large collagen fibers like with the regularly arranged connective tissue but they are not parallel, they run in several different directions. Nuclei of the fibroblasts are oval. Found in dermis of skin, outer coverings of body tubes, and fibrous capsules of organs and tissues
Cartilage
Three types, they all have small open spaces (lacunae) and cartilage cells (chondrites) that occupy the opening. Has poor blood supply.
Hyaline cartilage
Has about half and half collagen fibers, shows up as a a pink or blue mass. Found in growth plates, rings of the trachea and bronchi, the nose, joints of embryonic skeleton
Hyaline cartilage
Has about half and half collagen fibers, shows up as a a pink or blue mass. Found in growth plates, rings of the trachea and bronchi, the nose, joints of embryonic skeleton
Elastic cartilage
Looks a lot like hyaline cartilage but it has high levels of elastic fibers which turn more purple. Found in ears and epiglottis
Compact bone`
Composed of small units called osteons which look like targets with large bulls eye centers. The bulls eyes are where the blood vessel goes through. Concentric rings going through are called concentric lamellae. The cells that maintain the matrix are osteocytes. Canaliculi send nutrients and get rid of wastes.
Blood
it is considered a connective tissue. The matrix moves fluidly unlike the other connective tissues
