Muscle tissue Flashcards
A band

I band
Light band
Z disk
backbone of actin, divides sections of sarcomeres
Endomysium
connective tissue that surrounds individual muscle fibers
Perimysium
intermediate connective tissue that surrounds bundles of muscle fibers (fasciculi)
fasciculi
bundles of individual muscle tissues
Epimysium
connective tissue that surrounds a lot of bundles of fasciculi to make the muscle
skeletal muscle longitudinal
you can see the nucleus squished on the sides of the muscle fibers. Very symmetrical, you can see the striations, kind of looks like potato sack cloth
skeletal muscle cross section
looks like a bundle of fibers cut perpendicularly. You can see the endomysium and perimysium in between each fiber and bundle
smooth muscle longitudinal
Looks like cartilage in that things kind of blend together. You can see the very oblong nucleus,
smooth muscle cross section
Looks a bit like the cross section of skeletal muscle but less defined. You can see nucleus down the cross section
cardiac muscle longitudinal
Looks striated but it is more squiggly than skeletal. The striations go more parallel than perpendicular
cardiac muscle cross section
Defined bundles the the bundles are not square or uniform. Many irregularly shaped cylinders
intercalated disks
Muscle fibers are shorter and the intercalated disks are where the fibers connect. Like z disks but for cardiac muscle
striations
Where one section of the muscle meets up with the next one
