What is respiratory rate?
Freq. of breathing per min
What is alveolar ventilation?
Volume of air reaching the respiratory zone per min
What is respiration?
Process of generating ATP either aerobically or anaerobically
What is anatomical dead space?
Capacity of airway incapable of undertaking gas exchange
What is alveolar dead space?
Capacity of airway that should be able to undertake gas exchange but cannot
What is physiological dead space?
Equivalent sum of anatomical dead space + alveolar dead space
What is hypoventilation?
Deficient ventilation of lungs- unable to meet metabolic demand
What is hyperventilation?
Excessive ventilation of lungs atop of metabolic demands
What is hyperpnoea?
Increased depth of breathing
What is hypopnoea?
decreased depth of breathing
What is apnoea?
Cessation of breathing
What is dyspnoea?
difficulty in breathing
What is bradypnoea?
Abnormally slow breathing
What is tachypnoea?
Abnormally fast breathing
What is orthopnoea?
Positional difficulty in breathing
