How does blood pass through the heart?

A
  1. blood enters right atrium through vena cava
  2. Passes through tricuspid valve to right ventricle
  3. Passes through pulmonary valve and pulmonary artery to lungs
  4. Enters left atrium through pulmonay veins
  5. Passes through mitral valve into left ventricle
  6. Passes through aortic valve and is ejected out of aorta to rest of body

How are the valves structured?

A

Aortic, Tricuspid and Pulmonary valve all have 3 cusps

Mitral valave has 2 cusps

Aortic and pulmonary valve are the semi-lunar valves

Tricuspid and mitral valves are the atrioventricular valves

Thier role is to prevent backflow of blood
