Vasodilators Flashcards
block voltage gated L type calcium channels in heart & blood vessels
decrease contraction & conduction velocity
CCB
work on blood vessels to vasodilate & block voltage gated L type calcium channels
Dihydropyridine - “dipine”
block voltage gated L type calcium channels
reduces rate & contractility of heart
blocks AV node
Tx: SVT (tachyarrhythmias)
Non dihydropyridine - verapamil & diltiazem
causes vasodilation leading to activation of SANS, causing HR increase
Tx: HTN
Nifedipine
dilates arteries
Tx: HTN in pregnancy
can induce SLE syndrome
Hydralazine
dilates arterioles & venules
increases cGMP in smooth muscle
Tx: HTN emergency
Sodium Nitroprusside
effects mitochondrial ECT
causes headache, vomit, confusion, seizure, coma
Cyanide toxicity - Nitroprusside
induce hyper-polarization - arterial vasodilation
K+ channel opening drugs
used as IV to treat hypertensive crisis
SE: decreases insulin
diazoxide - K ch. opening drug
Tx: HTN, hair growth, DHT Blocker
SE: hypertrichosis
Minoxidil - K ch. opening drug
acts in D1 receptor
Tx: Hypertensive crisis
Advantages: increase renal perfusion & maintains renal function natriuresis
Fenoldopam
acts on dopamine receptors
Tx: cardiac & septic shock
Advantages: increase renal perfusion & maintains renal function natriuresis
Dopamine
