RA & Gout Flashcards
DMARD used in low dose in RA
Methotrexate
DMARD that is monoclonal antibody acts as TNF alpha blocker
infliximab
DMARD acts like TNF alpha blocker
etanercept
DMARD acts by blocking IL-1 actions
anakinara
DMARD that is cleaved in gut by bacteria into sulfapyridine and 5 ASA
sulfasalazine
active moiety when trading RA; stays in blood
sulfapyridine
active moiety when treating IBD
5 ASA
stabilizes lysosome and decreases chemotaxis
SE: cinchonism, hemolysis in G6PD def
hydroxychloroquine
increasing urate degradation
recombinant urate oxidase to metabolic uric acid to allantoin, which is easily excreted by kidney. reduces blood uric acid
SE: anaphylsaxis and urticaria
pegloticase
specifically suppresses gouty inflammation
inhibits release of glycoproteins
prevents formation of microtubules in neutrophils so they don’t migrate or degranulation = less inflammation
used to treat gout
colchicine
used in chronic gout bc it competes with uric acid for reabsorption so are uric acid excreted therefor helpful in gout, also txs secondary hyperurecemia
probenecid
prolongs actions of pencillins - competes for tubular secretion
probenecid
decrease production of uric acid by inhibiting xanthine oxidase which is responsible for converting hypoxanthine to uric acid
Allopurinol
febuxostat
used to treat chronic gout, secondary hyperurecemia, NOT used in acute gout
Allopurinol
febuxostat
