What is the purpose of a Vasectomy, Epididectomy or Teaser sx?
To prevent intromission of/to sterilize to detect estrus in females.
What are the main methods of producing a teaser animal?
Vasectomy and epididectomy
What is a vacestomy?
Removal of a segment of the ductus deferens.
During a vasectomy, how long of a section of the vas deferens do you isolate?
3cm
Once you remove your section of ductus deferens, why do you sent it to pathology?
To make sure your removed what you intended to.
What is an epididectomy?
Removal of the tail of the epididymis.
What is a non-entry teaser?
Penile fixation or tie down to prevent transmission of VDs.
What is a penile tie down?
Prevents the extrusion of the penis from the prepuce.
What is a prepuce and penile translocation?
The deviation of the penis and prepuce off the midline to produce a non-entry teaser.
Why do we see urolithiasis in castrated animals?
Because they have a smaller diameter urethra.
What might you see in an animal with urolithiasis?
Small calculi on the prepuce.
What are 3 clinical signs of urolithiasis?
Depression
Straining
Ventral swelling
What can you do in a sheep with urolithiasis if the obstruction hasn’t been there very long?
Amputate the urethral process.
What is another surgery that can be performed to remove uroliths higher up in the urogenital system?
Urethrotomy
What is a the purpose of a penectomy?
For urinary calculi.
