UTI treatment non pregnant woman and how long is tx
1st line: Nitrofurantoin or trimethoprim, orally for 3 days
complicated UTI/pyelonephritis tx primary care and duration of tx
co-trimaxazole 960mg or co-amoxiclav 625mg, for 14 days
complicated UTI/ pyelonephritis secondary care tx
amox IV 1g + gentamicin IV for 3 days
co-trimaxazole if penicillin allergic
tx for BPH
1st: a1 blocker: tamulosin
2nd: (5 alpha reductase inhibitor)- finasteride
if presenting w/ mod/ severe put them straight on a combination of 1 + 2
3rd line is TURP
large obstructing renal stone tx
(large = 7mm or greater)
(initial management)
urgent cytoscopy w/ jj stent insertion (to relieve obstruction quickly)
UTI tx for pregnant woman
7 days of Abx:
nitrofurantoin- contraindicted in 3rd trimester
amoxicillin- only after sensitivities are known
cefalexin
uncatheterised male UTI tx and duration of tx
trimethoprim or nitrofurantoin orally 7 days
