nerve innervation ENT Flashcards
stapedius muscle innervated by
say the cranial nerve number!
CN VII (facial)
tensor tympani muscle innervation
CN V3
(mandibular division of trigeminal nerve)
what are the intertemporal bone branches of the facial nerve
- greater petroseal nerve
- chorda tympani
- nerve to stapdeius
what is the course of the greater petroseal nerve
(basic)
and what does it supply
-facial nerve exits brainstem enters ptyrgeoine ganglion then
-exits, one of the branches being the greater petroseal nerve which passes along the floor of middle cranial fossa & passes superiorly over the tympanic cavity)
-joins with deep petroseal N=vidian N. > N. of pterygoid canal> lacrimal glands and mucosal glands
(parasympathetic supply).
what is the course of the nerve to stapedius
and function
branch of CN VII from the facial canal in the temporal bone, enters tympanic cavity to innervate muscle of stapedius
what is the course of the chorda tympani
4 points
1) exits CN VII from facial canal within temporal bone
2)enters tympanic cavity and runs inbetween the malleus and incus
3)exits tympanic cavity back through the petrotympanic fissure &
4) joins the lingual nerve (CNV3)
what does the facial nerve exiting from stylomastoid foramen innervate
what would damage to this nerve cause
muscles of face (motor function)
facial paralysis/bells palsy
what is the name of the parasympathetic ganglion which innervated the eye
the ciliary ganglion
what is the name of the sympathetic ganglion which innervates the eyes
superior cervical ganglion
what does the chorda tympani innervate
joins the lingual nerve (CNV3) to supply anterior 2/3rd of tongue (sense taste) and innervates sublingual glands (produce saliva)
what foramen does the the vestibulcochlear nerve exit
internal accoustic meatus
