Bed Protector
an item of removable bedding that sits on top of, or encases, a mattress to protect it.
Call Light
A visual cue that a patient needs assistance.
Closed Bed
Unoccupied beds covered with a top sheet to keep dust and dirt away.
Draw / lift / transfer sheet
Small bed sheet placed crosswise over the the bottom mattress sheet to help move patients.
Fan fold
Lifting patient bed coverings to the end of bed, by laying one small section on top of another.
Inventory/Belonging List
Writing down everything that belongs to the patient/resident when they are admitted to a care facility.
Mitered Corner
A way of making a triangle out of bed coverings, so that they tuck neatly under the mattress.
Occupied Bed
A bed that has a resident / patient in it.
Open Bed
When the top coverings of a bed are fan folded to the bottom, for easier patient/resident access.
Side Rails
Railings attached at both sides of the bed, to keep occupant from falling out.
Toe Tuck (pleat)
Manipulating bed covers near the patient’s toes, to give extra room for the feet.
Trapeze
Device constructed to go over the top of a bed. It has a steel triangle hanging from the top, so patients can pull themselves up.
