An interruption in the flow of blood to cells in the brain.
Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke)
When a foreign object completely or partially obstructs the passage of air from the upper airway into the trachea.
Choking
Medical term for vomit.
Emesis
Loss of consciousness, followed by a spontaneous rapid and complete recovery.
Fainting
Medical attention that is usually given immediately after an injury at the location where it occurred.
First Aid
Partial or complete break of a bone.
Fracture
Form that is filled out in order to record details of an unusual event/accident that occurs at a facility, such as an injury to a patient.
Incident Report
Happens when one or more areas of the heart muscle don’t get enough oxygen.
Myocardial Infarction
Acronym for using a fire extinguisher: Pull - Aim - Squeeze - Sweep
PASS
Acronym for handling a fire in a public building: Rescue - Alarm - Contain - Evacuate
RACE
Ways to keep residents/patients in place without use of devices that hold a patient down.
Restraint Alternatives
Physical devices that keep residents/patients from moving.
Restraint
A document that provides health and safety information about products, substances or chemicals that are classified as hazardous substances or dangerous goods.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
A burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells that causes temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching or limpness), behaviors, sensations or states of awareness.
Seizure
An intense tightening in the chest, difficulty breathing, breathlessness or a feeling of suffocation.
