Mental illness that causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration.
Bipolar Disorder
A combination of strategies, techniques, and methods intended to reduce a patient’s agitation and aggression.
De-escalation
A common mental disorder. It involves a low mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time.
Depression
Intellectual disability involves problems with general mental abilities of functioning in two areas: Intellectual functioning (such as learning, problem solving, judgement). Adaptive functioning (activities of daily life such as communication and independent living).
Intellectual Disability
A psychological condition that causes a person to experience unreasonable euphoria, very intense moods, hyperactivity, and delusions.
Mania
A state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.
Mental Health
A clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotional regulation, or behavior.
Mental Illness
A long-lasting disorder in which a person experiences uncontrollable and recurring thoughts (obsessions), engages in repetitive behaviors (compulsions), or both.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
An uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear of a certain object, situation, or activity
Phobia
A real disorder that develops when a person has experienced or witnessed a scary, shocking, terrifying, or dangerous event
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Shifting focus from distressing thoughts or emotions to more positive or neutral activities or ideas.
Re-direction
A mental disorder characterized by disruptions in thought processes, perceptions, emotional responsiveness, and social interactions.
Schizophrenia
Excessive use of a drug in a way that is detrimental to self, society, or both.
Substance Abuse
Intentionally causing one’s own death.
Suicide
