Unit 7: Notes 4 - Mutiple Alleles, Polygenic Traits, Sex-Linked Flashcards
What are Mutiple Alleles?
three or more alleles for a particular gene are present across a population.
Do diploid organisms have multiple alleles?
NOO, only more than two verisons of that gene could be possible.
What is Polygenic inheritance?
Polygenic inheritance refers to one phenotypic trait being produced by the cumulative effects of two or more genes, involving several loci on a pair of
homologous chromosomes.
BASICALLY MANY GENES for ONE trait!!
What is Sex-Linked Traits
traits controlled by genes on the sex chromosomes
Do males have only one X chromosome, what happens to the trait?
Yes, the trait will have only ONE allele, so if it was recessive, the recessive allele would show up
Do Males always inherit their X chromosome from their mother?
Yes
Are recessive X-linked traits always expressed in males?
Yes
Do males inherit the recessive X-linked traits more frequently than females?
Yes
