Q

What is a silent mutation?

A

When base substitution occurs and still results in the correct amino acid.

14
Q

What is Conservative? (missense)

A

When it codes for a different amino acid, but still is similar enough to function.

15
Q

What is Non-Conservative? (missense)

A

When it codes for a different amino acid, but it is VERY different, so it can be very bad for the protein and result in mutated function.

16
Q

What is a nonsense mutation?

A

When a base substitution occurs and it codes for a stop codon, this creates a shortened protein without a correct or any function.

17
Q

What is a frameshift?

A

amino acids are added or removed from the codons from mRNA. This SHIFTS the codon sequence of EVERY codon downstream of the mutation.
