Unit 5: Protein Synthesis Flashcards
DNA are codes for what?
Proteins
What do proteins do?
used for the function of the cell and enzymes help carry out reactions.
What is the order of events to express gene?
DNA → RNA → PROTEINS
Why can’t DNA transport itself out from the nucleus?
DNA is too BIG, so a messenger (RNA) is used to take the code to ribsomes!
What is the difference between RNA and DNA?
RNA has ribose sugar, They have a Uracil base instead of a Thymine, It is single stranded
What are the three types of RNA?
mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA
What is tRNA?
transports amino acids to ribsome, so they can make proteins.
What is mRNA?
copies code information from nucleus out to ribosomes in cytoplasm for protein synthesis
What is rRNA?
helps form ribosomes and links amino acids together to make proteins.
What is codon?
Uses a series of codons (mRNA+ 3 bases) to order the ribsome to create amino acids!
What is anticodon?
Uses anti-codon to help the codon to create the amino acids!! (complementary) (tRNA)
What is the first step to assembling proteins?
Transcripition
What does the step of Transcription do?
Is the process of taking code from DNA to the ribsome in the cytoplasm (using mRNA)
What is the second step to assembling proteins?
Translation
What is the Translation process?
The process of taking mRNA and using it to create animo acids (tRNA helps with this), which then creates proteins (rRNA links them together)! (in cytoplasm and ribosome of cell)
