What are traits?
physical characteristics that you can observe about someone
What is heredity?
the passing of traits from parents to offspring
What is a gene?
a small section of DNA that codes for a trait.
What is a allele?
different forms of a single gene
What is a dominant allele?
this copy of a gene will always appear
What is a recessive allele?
this copy of a gene can be masked and won’t always appear
What is a genotype?
an organism’s allele pairs represented by letters
What is a phenotype?
the physical traits that we can observe, or the outward expression of an allele pair
What is homozygous dominant?
two dominant alleles
What is a heterozygous?
one dominant allele and one recessive allele
What is a homozygous recessive?
two recessive alleles
What is a locus?
Is the location of a particular gene on a chromosome.
