Unit 7: Notes 3 - Incomplete and Codominance Flashcards
What is Mendelian Genetics?
the inheritance of traits that are dominant or recessive and follow a “one or the other” pattern.
What is complete dominance?
The pattern where the recessive trait is masked by the dominant trait.
What is Non-Mendelian Genetics?
the inheritance of traits that have a more complex pattern than those outlined by Mendel’s Laws, where there is only one gene and complete dominance.
What is codominance?
when two alleles for a given characteristic are both fully expressed, both dominant. This makes a third phenotype. (THEY ARE BOTH SEPARTED EXPERESSED)
What would the genotypes in a codminance pattern look like?
Genotypes
RR
RW
WW
What is incomplete dominance?
the pattern where two alleles for a give characteristic are both partially expressed. Neither allele is dominant so a blend of two results. So, red and white are incomplete dominace, so it will be pink together.
