The end of a relationship (either friendship or intimate) by voluntary instigation of at least one member in a relationship

5 Phases of Dissolution
Intrapsychic, Dyadic, Social, Grave-Dressing, Ressurection
- Intrapsychic Phase
Individual has own internal thinking and evaluation process of relationship
- Dyadic Phase
The stage when both people in relationship discuss thoughts & feelings about relationship - either repair or or move closer to dissolution
- Social Phase
A wider circle of friends or family is brought into the relationship breakdown. This stage is difficult to reconcile from
- Grave Dressing Phase
Chracterised by individual’s interpretation of why break-up occurred and justification of decisions. Involves self-preservation -> minimising own faults
- Resurrection Phase
Involves seeking new relationship after dissolution of past relationship. Associated with growth and new identity
