Unit 3 (Visual Perception) - Depth Cues Flashcards
Depth-Perception
Image captured by our retinas is two-dimensional -> the ability to see three-dimensional comes from our cortex
Binocular Depth Cues
Depth cues that rely on information from both eyes -
Retinal Disparity
A binocular depth cue where cortex uses the disparity in retinal images from left & right eye to assist in perception of depth
Monocular Depth Cues
Depth cues using information from only one eye
Accommodation
Monocular depth cue where information about distance from an object is gathered from tension on the cilary muscle, which changesto allow lens to change shape
Interposition
When one object obscures the vision of another object, the obscured object is further away
Texture Gradient
Objects that are closer to the observer are perceived in greater detail than those that are far away
