Unit 3 (Visual Perception) - Visual Perception Process Flashcards
Visual Perception Process Order (6)
Reception, Transduction, Transmission, Selection, Organisation, Interpretation
- Reception
Light is captured by sensory receptors in eye
- Transduction
The process of converting light energy (electromagnetic) into electrochemical energy which can be processed by neurons & brain
- Transmission
Visual information from retina is sent to the Primary Visual Cortex (Occipital Lobe), via the optic nerve
- Selection
Process of breaking visual stimulus into smaller parts & differentiating the various components that make up the visual image - utilizes feature detectors
Feature Detectors (Selection)
Specialised neurons that process different attributes of visual stimulus (shape, size, orientation, motion)
- Organisation
:Process of reassembling the elements of visual stimulus into a meaningful whole
- Interpretation
Assigning meaning to the visual stimulus - interpretation influenced by many rules, principles and factors.
