Unit 2-Lesson 4 Flashcards
What are the errors that can occur during meiosis?
Changes in chromsome structure
Changes in chromosome number
When can errors occur during meiosis?
Crossing Over
Independent Assortment
What are the 4 types of changes in a chromosome structure?
Translocation
Deletion
Duplication
Inversion
What happens during translocation?
Segment of one chromosome becomes attached to a different chromosome
What happens during duplication?
A section of a chromosome appears two or more times in a row
What happens during deletion?
A piece of the chromosome is deleted
What happens during inversion?
A section of chromosome is inverted
What is Non-disjunction?
Non-disjunction isthe failure of the chromosomes to separate
When can Non-disjunction happen during meiosis?
Non-disjunction can occur when homologous chromosome or sister chromatids do not separate during anaphase I or II of meiosis
How can Non-disjunction affect meiosis I?
Homologous chromosome fail to separate
How can Non-disjunction affect meiosis II?
Sister chromatids fail to separate
What is Monosomy?
missing one chromosome (2n=45)
What is Trisomy?
one extra chromosome (2n=47)
List the 3 main autosomal Conditions?
- Trisomy 21: Down Syndrome
- Trisomy 18: Edward Syndrome
- Trisomy 13: Patau Syndrome
List the 4 sex chromosome conditions/syndroms
- XXY: Klinefelter Syndrome
- XYY: Jacobs Syndrome
- XXX: Triple X Syndrome
- XO: Turner Syndrome
