What is transfer in skill acquisition?
It is the influence of learning and/or performance of one skill on the learning and/or performance of another.
What is proactive transfer?
If the transfer influences a skill yet to be learned or performed it is called proactive transfer
What is retroactive transfer?
If the transfer influences the performance of a previous learnt skill it is called retroactive transfer

What is positive transfer?
When learnt skills/tasks helped facilitate the learning of other skills. Similarities in both skill components and information processing characteristics will help increase the possibilities of positive transfer
What is negative transfer?
When one skill/task hinders or inhibits the learning or performance of another skill task. Sports performers and coaches tend to believe this happens on a regular basis. The effects are though to be limited and temporary.
What is zero transfer?
One skill/task has no effect on the performance of another skill
What is skill to skill transfer?
Throwing a ball to throwing a javelin (positive)
What is practice to performance transfer?
Batting in cricket against a bowling machine
What is abilities to skills transfer?
Improving dynamic strength in order to start races better
What is principles to skill transfer?
Learning that long levers aid throwing to throwing a javelin
What is bilateral transfer?
Learning to kick a ball with the weaker foot
