the distribution of blood at rest and during exercise Flashcards
Why is the distribution of blood at rest and during exercise important?
Diameter of arteries, arterioles, and opening/closing of the capillaries is important during both rest and exercise because it keeps blood pressure at a sufficient level to ensure cardiovascular function
How is distribution of blood done?
By involuntary control of smooth muscles or the arteries and sphincters in the capillaries
What happens to the distribution of blood during exercise?
The muscles being used receive the greatest amount of blood flow as more oxygen and nutrients are required and more waste products need to be removed. The arteries leading to the muscles become dilated and the capillary networks open. Blood flow to other areas of the body are restricted by the arteries constricting and the capillary networks being closed.
