Dorsi-flexion
Bending or flexing the toes up, closer to the shin
Plantar-flexion
Extending or pointing the toes down, away from the shin
Flexion
Flexion reduces the angle of a joint. Bending action
Extension
Extension increases the angle at a joint. Straightening movement
Rotation
Movement around a fixed point in a single axis
Circumduction
The movement of a limb in a circular action
Abduction
Movement away from the mid-line of the body
Adduction
Movement towards the mid-line of the body
Pronation
think pouring water - foot leaning inward
Supination
think eating soup - foot leaning outward
Inversion
towards the inside of the body (crossed ankles)
Eversion
away from the inside of the body (crossed ankles)
Elevation
ex. shoulders raised upwards, scapula elevated
Depression
ex. shoulders moved downwards, scapula depressed
