Flexion
Decrease angle between insertion and origin
Extension
Increase angle between insertion and origin
Hyperextension
extend beyond anatomical position
abduction
Moving a limb away from the body midline
Adduction
moving a limb toward the body midline
Rotation
the turning of a bone around the longitudinal axis
Circumduction
moving a limb or finger so that it describes a cone in space
Protraction
moving a body part in the anterior direction
Retraction
moving a body part in the posterior direction
Elevation
lifting a body part superiorly
Depression
moving a body part inferiorly
Pronation
Moving the forearm so the palm faces posteriorly
Supination
Moving the forearm so the palm faces anteriorly
Dorsiflexion
Lifting the foot so its superior surface approaches the shin
Plantar flexion
Depressing the foot, elevating the heel
