Crepe bandage - Supports strains and weak joints
Triangular bandage (WFAK ONLY) - Used as large dressings or slings
Wound dressing - Reduce the risk of infection, help the would heal quickly

While performing CPR what steps should be followed?

  • Turn on AED (voice prompts will be heard)
  • Bare the chest are (including excessive body hair)
  • Open the electrode pouches
  • Place the electrode pads
  • Do NOT touch the casualty
  • Follow voice prompts

How does the AED work?

A

1) Sticky pads with sensors (electrodes) are attached to the chest of the person suffering with SCA.
2) Electrodes send info about the persons heart rhythm to a computer in the AED.
3) The computer analyses the heart rhythm to decide if an electric shock is needed. If so the AED uses voice prompts to tell you when to deliver the shock and the electrodes deliver.

What precations must you bare in mind when using the AED (7)?

  • Only for use on unconscious passengers
  • Do NOT delay treatment determining the passengers age
  • Do NOT remove pads if the passenger recovers (this is done by paramedics)
  • Ensure correct placement of electrode pads
  • Do NOT touch the passenger during the analysis period
  • Do NOT pull the green tab on the Pad-Pak
  • AED can only be used on one person
