Flight time Time Limitations (FTL) Flashcards
What is meant by FTL?
Regulations set to ensure safe operation of crew duty and rest. These regulations ensure crew levels of alertness are well maintained.
What is a FDP?
Flight Duty Period
Period starting when crew reports for duty and finishes when the a/c engines are shutdown.
What’s the daily maximum for FDPs?
2 sectors = 13 hours
4 sectors = 12 hours
6 sectors = 11 hours
What is a DP?
Duty Period
Period starting when crew reports for duty and finishes when the crew is free of all duties (including post-flight duties).
What are the limits for DPs?
7 consecutive days = 60 hours
14 consecutive days = 110 hours
28 consecutive days = 140 hours
What is meant by a sector?
Segment of a FDP between the a/c first moving for take-off and landing + moving to its parking position.
What is meant by flight time?
Time between the a/c first moving for take-off and landing + moving to its parking position with all engines shut down.
What is meant by a rest period?
Period when crew member is free of all duties (including standby and reserve).
What’s the minimum time for a rest period.
At least 12 hours before any FDP, or the same time as the previous DP if longer than 12 hours.
What are the limits for flight time?
28 consecutive days = 100 hours
January to December = 900 hours
12 consecutive months = 1000 hours
What is meant by commanders discretion?
Allows the commander to increase max daily FDP by no more than 2 hours.
What must the commander ensure before exercising commanders discretion?
- If any crew member has a report time that would cause the use of discretion to exceed legal limits.
- If any crew member has operated more sectors than the captain on that day.
- If any crew member has reported for duty with reduced rest.
- If any crew member is working a 6th consecutive day.
- If there are any other safety concerns.
