- Twist handle clockwise (charge with CO2)

- Test squirt

- Use in one continuous motion

Precautions of water glycol?
Initial discharge may scatter loose material

PDI’s of Halon:
- Stowage

Operation of halon:
- Remove pin
- Hold extinguisher upright
- Hold lever and squeeze
- Test squirt
- Direct at base of fire
- Use in short sharp bursts

12-14 seconds
Precautions of the halon?
Not to be used as coolant
Always damped area with water after

PDI’s of the freon:
- Two nozzles directed towards waste bin
- One nozzle directed towards water heater
- Wax is present on tips
- Discs are silver/white
What do black discs on the freon mean?
Extinguisher may have been discharged
Who checks PDI’s of the crash axe?
Flight crew
Purpose of the crash axe? What is the handle insulated too?
To cut through obstructions or level panels to gain access to the fire

PDI’s of the PBE:
- Stowage
- Quantity
- Green case is intact
- Indicator is not pink
Operation of PBE:
- Open case
- Tear off red pull strip
- Remove from protective bag
- Pull ‘pull to actuate’ ring
- Hold device with life support pack away from user
- Grasp hole in neck seal and widen with thumbs
- Bend forwards, insert chin and pull across face
- Pull down until headband is fitted
- Check neck seal for secure fit
Duration of PBE?
15 mins
Removal of PBE:
- Move away from fire
- Grasp hood and pull forward over face
- Place in metal tray or bar box
- Shake hair to remove excess 02
PDI’s of fire gloves:
- Stowage
- Quantity
- No scorch marks
- One right, one left
Purpose of fire gloves?
To remove hot NOT BURNING material in order to gain access to the fire
Precautions of fire gloves?
Do not allow to get wet (conduct heat)
PDI’s of torch:
- Stowage
- Quantity
- Red light flashes every 10 secs (no more)
Duration of torch?
30 mins - 4 hrs
PDI’s on 02 bottles:
- Stowage
- Quantity
- Strap present
- Gauge reads 3/4 to full
- Mask attached to high-flow and low-flow
- Spare mask present
Operation of O2:
- Inform FD
- No smoking PA
- Check 02 flow - turn anti-clockwise, wait for green indicator
- Turn off
- Place strap around CC or ABP
- Sit PAX upright
- Remove makeup/dirt/grease from face
- Turn on
- Fit mask around mouth and nose
- DO NOT let go below 1/4
- If needed for landing brief ABP + inform CAP
Precautions of O2?
Use on low flow for INF
DO NOT use while firefighting
Ensure one full bottle close to CC station
Use INF mask when fitted

- No.2 unplugs from stowage
- Unbend aerial
- Outside a/c switch ON
- In a ditching attach to no.2 lanyard
Duration of ELTs?
Min 48 hrs
Difference with ELT Type-C?
Includes a two-way radio
PDI’s of ELT Type-C:
- Stowage
- Stop switch in place
- Aerial in stowed position
Operation of ELT Type-C:
- No.1 removes from stowage
- Extends aerial
- Remove stop switch
- Activate by pulling lanyard from OFF to ON
- Attach to wrist or LJ
- In switching attach to no.1 LJ
PDI’s of IFD:
- Stowage
- Quantity
Operation of IFD:
- Take INF and parent to galley
- Attach crotch strap to buckle
- Place INF legs each side of strap
- Place neck strap over head
- Adjust straps
- Ensure parent knows how to inflate
- Lanyard attached to parent outside the a/c
How to adapt an adult LJ to fit a child?
- Fully inflate out of sight of PAX
- Partially deflate by a third
- Place over head, pass strap around one leg and attach buckle
- Deflate to allow the child to brace
- Instruct parent to fully inflate outside the a/c
PDI’s of loudhailer:
- Stowage
- Quantity
- Squeeze handle, green light flashes
- Squeeze handle, click heard
Purpose of loudhailer:
Outside a/c after an evacuation
Inside a/c if PA system fails (inform CAP first)
PDI’s of AED:

- Green light flashes every 5-10 seconds
Operation of AED:
- DRS ABC
- Start CPR
- Turn on AED
- Bare the chest area
- Open electrode pouches
- Place electrode pads
- Do NOT touch casualty
- Follow voice prompts
Precautions of AED?
Only to be used on unconscious casualty’s who are not breathing normally
What is the red FAK and who may use it?
EMERGENCY USE ONLY
May only used by medically qualified person
How do you use the escape rope?
- Open access panel and remove rope
- Pull on rope to ensure securely attached
- Evacuate using ‘leg,shoulder,leg’ method
What are the settings on the quick don 02 mask?
- Normal
- 100%
- Emergency
When would CC use the fireproof gash bag?
When FWD and AFT gash carts are full
What is the purpose of each FAK?
White - Emergency use only
Green - Everyday use
PDI’s of child O2 mask?

How to attach child O2 mask?
Remove adult mask (push connector and twist anti-clockwise)
Attach child mask (push connector and twist clockwise)
Precautions of loudhailer?
Do not point at fuselage
Operation of pocket mask?
- Take out of case
- Push middle section out with thumbs
- Attach one-way valve to housing
Purpose of cabin defects log book?
To advise engineering on equipment or defects that need correcting or repairing.
What must the No.1 do in relation to the cabin defects log book?
- Pre-flight: Check for any outstanding items and advise CAP
- Inform CAP immediately should a significant safety item become defected during the flight
- Update CAP on turnarounds on non-critical defects which have occured
Precautions of the PBE?
- Neck seal must not be damaged when putting on
- Be careful with sharp edges (e.g. jewellery)
- DO NOT touch life support pack
What shall CC check in the toilets?
- They are clean and tidy
- waste bins are not overflowing + flap is closed
- Ensure toilet flush cuts out
- Smoke detectors have not been tampered with
- No smoke present
- Under sink is Freon and a Water Supply Selector Valve
PDI’s of the smoke detectors?
- Green power light illuminated
- Nothing blocking detector
PDI’s on the wheelchair?
- Stowage
- Quantity
Operation of the wheelchair?
1) Remove from stowage
2) Remove from protective cover
3) Lift seat back upwards
4) Pull the ‘pull’ handle
5) Open the seat (push downwards)
6) Open out the foot rest
Precautions of ELT Type A/B?
Can be used in water however, should not be submerged for an extended period of time
Where is the water shut-off valve located?
FWD - At eye level (above boiler)
AFT - At floor level (below boilers)
PDI’s of the oven?
- Circuit breakers in position
- No foreign objects in oven
- No excessive dirt/grease
- Oven racks clear and present
- Heat over for 5 mins
