Aircraft composition
What is the APU?
Auxiliary Power Unit
Small engine below the tail, provides independent electrical power to the a/c on the ground.
What is the GPU?
Ground Power Unit
Used instead of the APU to provide electrical power on ground.
What is a CB? What should you do if it trips?
Circuit Breaker
Fuse type hardware located behind pilot seats/galleys.
DO NOT RESET - Inform captain or supervisor
What is the PRAM?
Pre-Recorded Announcement Machine
Plays music, safety announcements and adverts in different languages.
What is the ACP? Where are they located?
Attendant Control Panel
Hardware controls and touchscreen fitted with Boeing Sky Interior - used to control cabin lighting.
One at the front one at the rear.
What is the GIRT bar?
Metal bar which connects to brackets on the floor when the slide is armed.
What is the GIRT apron?
Heavy material which connects the slide to the GIRT bar.
What is the ELS?
Emergency Lighting System
Provides directions to locate exits and pathways (both interior and exterior) when visibility is low.
What is the PEM?
Photo-luminescent Emergency Lighting
Similar to ELS, however, operates independently to the a/c electrical system.
What is the PSU?
Passenger Service Unit
Area above the passengers, holding:
- Air vents
- Reading lights
- Oxygen masks
- Crew call light
- Signs
What is a LJ?
Life Jacket
Inflation device helping clear the mouth and nose of water.
What is an IFD?
Infant Flotation Device
What is the fuselage?
The outer skin of the aircraft.
What is the flight deck/cockpit?
Compartment from which the a/c is flown.
What is the hold?
Compartment in the lower deck where the baggage and cargo is stored.
