How do you extinguish a fire?
Remove or limit 02 to smother the fire
Remove or limit heat to cool the fire
Remove or limit fuel to starve the fire
What is defined as a Class A fire?
Flammable solids
(fabric, wood, paper, plastic, rubber etc)
What is defined as a Class B fire?
Flammable liquids
(oils, grease, petrol, paint)
What is defined as a Class C fire?
Flammable gases
(butane, lighter gas)
What is defined as a Class D fire?
Combustible metals
(magnesium, titanium)
What is defined as a Class E fire?
Live electrical equipment
(electricity doesn’t burn but it can cause a reaction to an incorrect agent)
What is defined as a Class F fire?
Flammable fats
(fats and cooking oils)
What’s the difference between electrical and non-electrical fires?
Electrical - fishy/rubbery smell (DO NOT USE WATER)
Non-electrical - extinguish with water glycol or any non-alcoholic liquid
