- CBC, CMP, blood cultures
- LP if under 6mo
can be first indicator of meningitis/encephalitis but usually benign
what are the risk factors for bacterial sepsis in a newborn
- chorioamionitis or Maternal GBS
- maternal temp of 100.4+
- PROM 18+ hrs
- prematurity
tx for early vs late bacterial sepsis in a newborn
- early = amp + (gent or cefotaxime)
- late (7+ days after birth) = amp + (gent or cefotaxime) + vanc
what age group do you start empiric acyclovir in if you are working them up for viral meningitis
inants <1 month
what is the indication for giving steroids prior to abx for bacterial meningitis? also, what are the abx?
- steroids if no hx of HiB vaccine
- vanc + (rocephin or cefotaxime)
how do you treat pneumococcal meningitis
Vanc + (rocephin or cefotaxime) + PCN G
N meningitidis treated like this too i think
URI w bilateral conjunctivitis. preauricular LAD present and foreign body sensation in eye.
pharyngoconjunctival fever
bilateral conjunctivitis with yperemia, watery discharge, eyelid swelling and ptosis.
epidemic keratoconjunctivitis
swelling and ptosis gves it away
when do you use Olopatadine BID and what is it
eye drops for allergic conjunctivitis
antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer
atopic, vernal, and allergic are all treated the same.
giant papillae of the upper tarsal conjunctiva with white dots, ptosis and keratitis.
