Q

cranial nerves

A
  1. olfactory- 15-20 fibers that pierce the cribriform plate of ethmoid
  2. optic- goess off from the optic canal with the ophthalmic artery
4 and 5. oculomotor and trochlear- posterior end of the roof of cavernous sinus the run on the lateral side of cavernous sinus and enter the orbit through superior orbital fissure
  3. trigeminal sensory and motor root pierce through the apex of temporal bone and enter the middle cranial fossa
  4. abducent pierces the posterior wall of cevernous sinus runs at the lateral side of dosrum sellar beneath the petrousphenoidal ligament and enter the cranial fossa
7 and 8. facial and vestibulocochlear internal acousting meatus with labyrinthine vessels
9.10.11. glossopharyngeal vagus and accessory pierce the dura mater and goes off from foramen magnum
  5. hypoglossal pierce the dura matter separately pass through hypoglossal canal

A

base of the brain gives off

15
Q

greater petrosal nerve

A

carries taste and parasympathetic fibers arsises from the geniculate ganglion of facial nerve and enters the middle cranial fossa through tha hiatus for greater petrosal nerve at the anterior part of petrous bone
goes into foramen lacerum and joins with deep petrosal to form the nerve of the pterygoid canal

16
Q

nerve of pterygoid canal

A

passes through the canal and relay in pterygopalatine ganglion. postganglionic supplies the lacrimal gland, mucous membrane of nose, palate and pharynx

17
Q

deep petrosal nerve

A

sympathetic in nature arises from the sympathetic plexus around the internal carotid
postganglionic fibers are from superior cervical ganglion
joins with greater petrosal to form the nerve of pterygoid canal

18
Q

lesser petrosal nerve

A

parasympathetic in nature arise from tympanic plexus
preganglionic fibers are from the tympanic branch of glossopharyngeal nerve and goes through the hiatus for lesser petrosal nerve leaves the skull through foramen ovale and relay in otic ganglion
suppy the parotid gland through the auricotemporal nerve

19
Q

external petrosal nerve

A

sympathetic in nature arises from sympathetic plexus around the mm nerve and goes to geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve
