Q

3 parts of mandibular artery

A

1st part mandibular part b/w the neck of the mandbile and sphenomandibular ligament
2nd part pterygoid part superficial to the lower head of lateral pterygoid
3rd part ptergypalatine part
passes beteween the 2 heads of the lateral pterygoid then to ptergomaxillary fissure into the pterygopalatine fossa

Q

maxillary artery 1st part

A
  1. deep auricular- external acoustic meatus, tympanic membrane and tmj
  2. anterior tympani- middle ear and medial part of tympanic membrane
  3. middle meningeal- enters the middle cranial fossa throrugh foramen spinosum and divides into a large frontal branch to pterion and a smaller parietal branch
  4. accessory meningeal- goes through foramen ovale and supplies the meninges and infratemporal fossa
  5. inferior alveolar- medially into the ramus goes through mandibular canal (before entering the canal splits into labial and mylohyoid branch) within the canal splits into branches suppling each root and also divides into mental branches that comes off from mental foramen

Q

maxillary artery 3rd part

A
  1. pst sup alveolar artery- pterygomaxillary fissure and supplies the maxillary premolar molar and maxillary sinus
  2. inferior orbital- enters pterygomaxillary fissure and enters into the orbit through inferior orbital fissure and on the face thrugh infra oribital foramen (orbital branches: middle sup alveolar to premolar and anterior superior alveolar to canine and incisors ) also give branches to lacrimal sac, nose and upper lips
  3. greater palatine- goes through the greater palatine canal in the lateral part of hard palate and supplies the palate and the gums. within the palate gives lesser platine which enters through lesser palatine foramen and supplies soft palate and tonsils
  4. pharyngeal branch- emerges thorugh palatovaginal canal and supplies the nasopahrynx, auditory tube and sphenoidal air sinus
  5. artery of pterugoid canal- goes through the canal and supplies pharynx, auditory tube and tympanic cavity.
  6. sphenopalatine artery- sphenopalatine foramen enter intoo the nasal cavity posterolateral to lateral wall of posteromedial to nasal septum
