Officers assigned to vehicles will inspect the readiness of vehicles for transport when?
Beginning and end of each tour of duty
When handcuffing officers will….
double lock all detainees with their hands behind their back in a hand over hand position.
After receiving authorization from the OIC or STS officers can handcuff in the front for the following reasons;
Obvious state of pregnancy, physical handicap, or injuries aggravated by standard handcuffing.
Is the officer legally responsible of the detainee during during transportation?
Yes
Should the officer assume someone else searched a prisoner before transportation?
No. Always search them unless done in their presence by another officer.
When transporting, officers will provide dispatch with the following info when possible;
Arrest, location, destination of transport, and; if opposite sex or juvenile mileage before and after transport.
When preparing the detainee to the court house how many officers will be in booking? When transporting to the 2nd District courthouse their will be how many officers? Who is in charge of this oversite?
at least 2 in booking. When deemed necessary more can be utilized for officer safety and prevent escape. If only 1 detainee, 1 officer may provide transportation to the courthouse. If 2 arrestee’s are in the same car then 2 officers will transport, or 2 officers can transport in separate cruisers. The OIC is in charge of oversite.
When transporting to the courthouse detainees will not be..
handcuffed together.
If 2 detainees are to transported in the same vehicle how many officers will be used?
2 officers, unless transported in 2 separate vehicles then 1 officer per each detainee.
Can a detainee be transported in a vehicle w/out a security screen between the front and rear seats?
Yes, with approval of OIC, must have 2 officers. Care will be taken to place arrestee with contact w/driver and away from weapon side of officers.
When transporting what is the procedure with the detainees in the cruiser before transport?
Will be secured in a seat belt in an upright seated position, unless seat belting can not be accomplished safely. Will NOT be transported Prone position. If can be upright secure on their side and monitor.
