The CEW will NOT be used in the following situations:
if you cannot approach the subject within range (safety reasons), Proximity of flammable liquids/gases/blasting material, reasonable belief incapacitation of the subject may result in serious injury/death/fall, or belief to be ineffective on people on alcohol/drugs or mental illness.
What is the maximum effectiveness distance should the CEW be fired from?
7 to 15 feet away at preferred target zones.
Where on the back and the front are the target zones for CEW?
Back: aim below the neck. Front: Aim few inches below center mass of chest area (below nipple line)
Avoid using CEW on what examples when possible?
person in control of a veh., in wheelchairs, pregnant women, known heart problem, elderly, children less than 80 lbs, people with known neuromuscular disorders (ie..multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy)
Aftercare by restrained suspects by use of CEW is?
whether or not probes enter the skin officers will make arrangements for medical eval by means of transport to hospital or request a rescue to the scene.
Situations involving individuals receiving more than 3 cycles or cumulative greater than 15 seconds by a CEW what will the officer do for aftercare?
they will be transported to the ER.
In cases of CEW where subject dies what should the officer ask medical staff?
to obtain/document the subjects core temp, for information towards the level of their physiological stress and potential for excited delirium.
