What is the “waiting period” required before the department will accept a missing person’s report?
There is no formal waiting period.
What are the Criteria for entry into NCIC for a missing person?
1) Disability, 2) Endangered (indications that their physical safety may be in danger), 3) Involuntary (abduction/kidnapping), 4) Catastrophe Victim, 5) Juvenile (under 18 and doesn’t meet 1-4), 6. Other (Between 18-21 and does not meet 1-5)…..7. A person 21 over can be enter with documentation in possession supporting the conditions the person is missing.
Recovery of Adult missing persons procedure;
Competent adults cannot be forced to return home, advise them of the missing persons report, ask if they would like anyone notified. Complainant will be notified of recovery, unless other circumstances negate it (Criminal matters).
Recovery of a Juvenile missing persons procedure;
Officer will ensure the juvenile receives any medical attention, questioning/investigation on the circumstances of the disappearance.
Who is in charge of all search and rescue efforts?
The Patrol OIC is in charge.
A Child is Missing (ACIM) is a non-profit organization to assist in;
the search for missing children, the elderly (particularly Alzheimer effected) or disabled persons. Children who are generally under 12 yrs old.
What is the Amber Alert criteria?
Reason to believe a child is abducted and is in serious danger of harm/death; child is 17 or younger. Not normally used for runaway or parental abduction unless there is specific reason to believe the life of the child is in severe danger.
When AMBER alert is activated (after uploading and approval by RISP), who will be notified and where will the AMBER Alert operate out of?
The Chief and Captain of Patrol will be notified. The alert will operate out of The EOC at RIEMA until alert is terminated.
What is the criteria for A Missing Senior Citizen Alert?
LEO has confirmed a senior citizens (person 60 or older) with impaired mental health condition/ individual of any age diagnosis with dementia. The person’s domicile is in RI/was visiting or traveling in the state at the time of missing and LEO believes the circumstances around disappearance poses a realistic threat to their safety/health.
A Blue Alert can be initiated by the what criteria?
A LEO is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty, LEO is missing in connection with their official duties, or Imminent and credible threat to cause the serious injury or death of a LEO is received.
