Definition: Emergency Situation is?
An actual or potential condition that poses an immediate threat to life or property.
Definition: Non-Emergency Situation is?
Any situation which an adjacent city/town’s police chief requests assistance with non-emergency situations.
Definition: Mutual Aid is?
the exchange of services, personnel and /or equipment between law enforcement agencies during time of emergency.
Definition: Mutual Assistance is?
the “Limited” exchange of services, personnel and /or equipment between law enforcement agencies during routine law enforcement services. (Ast w/traffic at an accident or request for back up at a domestic).
Who has Jurisdiction in Newport?
The Newport Police and RISP.
With Mutual Aid to outside departments, NPD Off will have what authority to police in outside jurisdictions?
The will be vested in the same legal authority as the city or town as referenced in RIGL 45-42-2 (b). NPD will adhere to the same policies/procedure ect of NPD.
With Mutual Aid in another jurisdiction outside of NPD, which jurisdictions pursuit policy do you adhere to?
The outside agencies policy will apply and control. They will have authority to terminate the pursuit.
If NPD is giving mutual aid, who is in charge?
The ranking NPD Officer. Orders given by outside agency to NPD Officers will be delegated by the ranking NPD Officer.
If NPD requests Mutual Aid how is radio communications coordinated?
NPD will use the “Inter-City radio system”. NPD Off. will communicate through channel 1. Disp and OIC’s responsible for monitoring Inter-City and keeping personnel informed.
