1) Batch: group transactions for processing (Groups transactions into batches, need to be sorted into a sequence, compute batch control totals)
2) On-line, real time: continuous, immediate, processing

A
- Low volume, periodic transactions
- Transactions are independent or unimportant
When would we note:
- Not real time. System is always out of date?
