What is the purpose of the Total Army Sponsorship Program?
Provides units to help welcome and help prepare Soldiers
(and their families) for their new duty station.
Sponsorship is conducted on a 3 tiered approach. What are the
3 tier approaches?
3 tier approaches?
Tier 1: AIT/Officer Basic course. Will have sponsorship
prior to publication of orders.
Tier 2: Soldiers/NCOs/Officers in the grades of E1-E6, O1-
O3, WO1-WO2. Will require sponsorship prior to finalizing
out their installation.
Tier 3: Senior NCO/Senior Officers in the grades of E7-E9,
O4-O6, WO3-WO5 May request sponsorship but are not
required sponsorship.
What is the purpose of a DA Form 5434?
Is used to transmit sponsorship requirements to gaining
commands. It is completed by the departing Soldier before
they PCS.
Where can the incoming Soldier fill out their DA 5434?
On the ACT (Army Career Tracker) website through AKO.
What is the role of the Soldier before departing the unit?
Receives Sponsor Notification and Welcome Letter.
Responsible for completing DA Form 5434, Sections 1,2,4,5.
Completes Sponsorship Surveys.
What is the Role of the Sponsor/Unit?
Completes DA Form 5434, Section 3.
Contact Soldier before arrival.
Work with Incoming Soldier throughout transition.
When are individuals exempt from being a sponsor?
- Being replaced by the inbound Soldier (happens all the
time) - Out-processing within 90 days of the inbound Soldier.
- Pending unfavorable actions or separation.
- Projected to be absent during the first 60 days of the
inbound Soldier. - Pending medical or physical board.
Are family members traveling without the sponsoring Soldier,
offered sponsorship?
Yes, BDE/BN commanders and CSMs will ensure Soldiers
and their families receive sponsors.
Situational Question: You have a soldier who just arrived to the
island. How could you assist them and their family?
Pick them up at the airport, make sure they have housing,
make sure they have things they need while on ROM, show
them around post/island/the unit, help them in-
process…etc…
