Failure to attend NCO Development Study

Situational Question: You have a Soldier that you have told to attend
the board study group. They never show, they apologize and give you
an excuse why but the next time they are supposed to attend they are
a no show again and the pattern continues. What do you do as a
leader?

Answer 1

If I have told a Soldier to attend, a training/meeting/study
group/NCO development study and they do not attend, and there
is no valuable excuse why they did not show, then they are
disobeying a lawful order. I will counsel them at that point and
escort them to the meeting if it has to get to that point. They can
challenge and say that there is no regulation that says they have
to attend but if I give them a lawful order then they need to
execute that order. If I have put in their initial counseling that
they will attend trainings or meeting that will help with
professional growth then they will attend the meeting/groups
that I have told them to attend.
