Alopecia

What is Hypotrichosis?
partial hairloss, form of alopecia
What is primary alopecia due to?
Due to endocrinodermatopathies or folliculardysplasia
What is secondary alopecia due to?
due to trauma, inflammation
How to describe hair loss or hair gain?
continuous, circumscribed, patchy-diffuse,
multifocal- focal, symmetrical-asymmetrical
Decreased gloss of the hair coat, can indicate?
Problems with grooming and nutrition

External ear canal
Abnormalities with hair follicles:
- Follicular atrophy
- Follicular dysplasia

- Apocrine = where the hair is
- Eccrine = only on footpads. But also deep in dermis and subcutis
How to examine the external ear canal?
- Inspection
- Palpation
- Otoscopy
- Test

Skin of the ear pinnae and external ear canal
Palpation of the external ear canal:
Check for pain and sensitivity on the basis of the ear

If we find pus inside the ear canal, what can this indicate?
Pseudomonas bacteria
What is Ceruminous otitis externa?
inflammation of the glandular structures of the ear canal, with subsequent excessive epidermal proliferation and otitis externa that requires medical or surgical management.
