Which of the mucous membranes are visible, and therefore need to be examined?
- Conjunctiva
- Oral
- Nasal
- Anal
- Genital
Which parameters to examine on the mucous membrane:
- Colour
- Moisture (check mucous, quantity and quality)
- Membrane vessels (check for haemorrhages)
- Surface (check lesions, smoothness)
- Capillary refil time
Normal colour of mucous membranes:
Light pink, can be pigmented
Normal moisture of mucous membrane:
Shiny and moist
Normal surface of mucous membrane:
Smooth and intact
The conjunctiva = moderately ruffled and symmetrical on both sides
Normal membrane vessels of mucous membrane:
Can be slightly visible
Normal CRT of mucous membrane:
<2 (less than 2)
