Define the term ‘Functional Group’
Group of atoms responsible for a molecule’s chemical reactions

Compounds containing hydrogen and carbon only
Define the term ‘Homologous Series’
Family of compounds with the same general formula and similar chemical properties that show a gradual change in physical properties.
Define the term ‘Molecular formula’
(in terms of hydrocarbons)
Shows the number of hydrogens and carbons present
Define the term ‘Chemical Property’
The reactions that a chemical takes part in.
Define the term ‘Full Structural Formula’
Shows which atoms are present in the molecule, how many there are and how they are bonded.
Define the term ‘Shortened Structural Formula’
Shorter way of representing what atoms are present in a molecule and how the atoms are bonded.
