Topic 5 - 5.4 - Reactions Flashcards
Neutralisations and Acid reactions included
1
Q
Metal Oxide, Hydroxide, Carbonate are all examples of what and why is this?
A
They are examples of bases because they can neutralise acids.
2
Q
Why is water formed in neutralisation reactions?
A
Water is formed because the H+ ion from the acid joins with the OH- ion from the alkali, making water.
3
A
The reaction of an acid with a base that results in the pH moving towards 7. In these reactions, water is always produced.
4
Q
Name the 4 reactions acids take part in
A
- Acid + Metal → Salt + Hydrogen
- Acid + Metal Hydroxide → Salt + Water
- Acid + Metal Oxide → Salt + Water
- Acid Metal Carbonate → Salt + Water + Carbon Dioxide
