titration curves Flashcards

Q

Hpw do we calibrate?

A

= measure known PH of buffer solution- as PH meters can
= rinse with distilled ater many times,
loose accuracy on storage
= putting probe in set buffer, and pressing calibration button
= imporv eaccracy by maintaining temperature

Q

How to construct a PH curve?

A

= transfer 25cm^3 of acid into a conical flask using a pippete
= measure intial PH using an PH meter
= add alkali in small smounts, ntoing the volume added, birrute
= stir mixture to equalise the PH
= measure PH
= repeat
= add until alkali in excess

Q

What is strong base strong acid curve?

A

= steep part around 3-9
= equalivalence point at 7
= starts at 1
= cm^3 of base is 25cm^3

Q

What is weak acid strong base?

A

= start PH rises quickly, flattened part is buffer region, formed when buffer solution is made
= PH starts near 3
= equivalence 7
= steep around 7 to 9
