Q

How is the No2+ electrophile formed?

A

= HNo3 + 2H2SO4 => +No2 + 2H2SO4- + H3O+
= +H-OSo2OH, reacts with a nitric acid, this has a lone pair of electrons on the oxygen, 2 , this forms a OSO2OH and a H2ONo2
= the bond between the nitrogen and oxygen breaks firming +NO2 and H2O

Q

What is the mechanism for the nitration of benzene?

A

= +NO2 reacts with benzene, this forms a horse shoe shape, this must extent between 2 to 6 not any more
= the H+ breaks and electrons go to the delocalised ring
= this forms aH+ io
